5 P’s of Summer Home Decorating Ideas to Spruce Up Your Space

#1 - Paint

A fresh coat of paint is one of the quickest and most affordable ways to decorate your home. It can also help create a more cohesive look if you’re combining different styles. When choosing paint colors, consider the overall tone you want to create. For a more relaxed feel, go for softer hues. If you want something brighter and airier, go for bolder colors. And don’t forget about the trim! A contrasting color can really make your space pop.

Paint is so much fun because you can experiment with more than just colors. You can even add patterns or other wallpaper that fits your aesthetic.

#2 - Plants

There are so many benefits of plants inside the house! They help purify the air, increase humidity, and can even boost your mood. Plus, they're a great way to add a pop of color or life to any room. When it comes to summer decorating, plants are a must!

Because plants and flowers come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, you can find the perfect plant and perfect pot to decorate each corner. Some of our favorite plants to have at home are varieties of small cactus and succulents as they are low maintenance and trendy. You can also visit your local farmer’s market or Home Depot for other options.

#3 - Pop of Color

A great way to bring some life into your home this summer is with a pop of color. You can do this in a few different ways. One way is to add a colorful piece of furniture, like a bright red couch or a yellow dining room table. Another way is to paint an accent wall in a fun color, like lime green or hot pink. Or, you could simply add some colorful throw pillows or blankets to your existing furniture. Whatever route you choose, just make sure the rest of your decor doesn't clash with your chosen color or colors.

Another way to do this is to research using Pantone and find shades you like. Maybe you’ll choose the color of the year, or even something older. Whatever floats your boat!

#4 - Prints & Textures

As the weather heats up, so should your home’s style! This summer, try incorporating some cool prints and textures into your decor. Rugs are a great way to add both prints and textures to your space. Look for rugs with geometric patterns or floral designs. You can also find rugs made from natural materials like jute or sisal. If you’re not looking to change out your entire rug, try adding a few accent pillows in fun prints and fabrics.

Another easy way to add texture to your space is with throw blankets. Look for blankets with fringe or tassels for a little extra something. Lastly, don’t forget about windows and curtains! Curtains made from linen or cotton will help keep your home cool and stylish this summer.

#5 - Prized Pieces

Last but definitely not least - another way to decorate your home this summer is to thrift or check out antique stores for unique pieces. A modern way to do this is even scrolling through sites like Etsy and Mercari, online shops, for custom and collectible pieces. You can find some great antiquated treasures and customizable artwork that will add character to your home. Plus, it's a great way to support local businesses and smaller artists or creators.

Be on the lookout for paintings, cool rocks and geodes, and other trinkets like ceramics, vases, lamps, and so on. Finally, speaking of lamps - lighting is another great way to decorate your home and have fun contrasting between rooms. You can add LED lights or a unique lamp for some more color and pop.
