Top Tips for Hiring a House Cleaning Service

When people call us for the first time to inquire about hiring a cleaning service, they typically have a lot of questions. We would like to answer some of your questions here, to help you decide on which cleaning service to call, and what to expect.

Things you should know before hiring a cleaning service to come into your home.

  1. Decide How Often You Need Them to Clean Your Home.

House cleaning can be done on a variety of schedules, but you do have to give them time to clean and enough warning time so that they can add your home to their route. Regularly scheduled house cleaning visits can be once per week, bi-weekly (2-3 times per month), or once per month. Some people like to call a maid service only when their home needs to be cleaned, but you may have to wait a week to get placed on the schedule. Just remember that “cleaning on demand” may not be as quick as you want it, and to plan 2 weeks ahead if you have company coming in town, a house showing, a party scheduled, etc.

  1. Decide How Many Rooms You Want Cleaned.

Many people ask for the common areas to be cleaned, such as the kitchen, living areas, foyer, hallway, and bathrooms. However, some people like having their laundry room, office, finished basement, playroom, or extra bedrooms cleaned, too. Especially if you know you have guests coming over, or if you know that family is staying with you the next week. The main thing to decide is to list off the rooms that you want cleaned, and we will notate it on your house cleaning checklist.

  1. Decide on a Timeframe That We Can Come Clean, or Give Us a House Key.

Many of our clients don’t want to be home when we clean, and that is ok with us, if you are comfortable with that. However, if you are going to be gone during cleaning hours, or if you will be out of town during your scheduled house cleaning, it may be best to give us a house key. We will label your house key so that we know it belongs to you.

  1. Hire Only a Licensed and Insured House Cleaning Service to Protect Your Home.

If you are ready to hire a cleaning service, be SURE that they are licensed and insured, in case of an accident or an emergency. You can never be too careful when it comes to your family and your home. Be sure you check their credentials and license.

  1. Check Their Reviews Online.

We know that everyone will get a bad review sometimes, but overall, a cleaning company should have good reviews. At Sponge and Sparkle, we develop relationships with people after cleaning their homes week after week and visiting them and talking with them. They leave us good reviews about our cleaning services and our staff. So, be sure to check reviews before you hire a cleaning service. The details matter in house cleaning, and reviews do too.
