Cleaning windows and window blinds can be a huge task, especially if you have several of them throughout your home or office. However, it doesn’t have to be! Take some time to clean the blinds properly—and you’ll see that cleaning your blinds isn’t so hard after all. Follow these tips and tricks to clean your blinds and windows quickly.
While cleaning your windows might not be at the top of your to-do list, it's one of those chores that can really make a difference in improving your home's appearance. Cleaning blinds and windows will make them look clean. It may sound simple, but if you haven't done it in a while, you'll be amazed at how much better your space looks once you have completed these projects. You'll be surprised how much dust the blinds can collect! And once you have cleaned the windows and blinds, you'll have more light coming into your home to brighten up your entire space.
Dusters: The first step to cleaning your blinds is to use a slim-shaped duster to get the top layer of dust off of each side of every blind. This can be tedious but it is very important!
Lint-free cloths: Using lint-free rags is an easy way to keep your blinds completely dust-free. No matter if you use just a simple rag or if you prefer microfiber, both are better than paper towels. If you don’t have either on hand, use old t-shirts or socks. They can be a little coarse but they’re lint-free and that will help keep your blinds clean longer between cleanings. Just wipe down one side at a time then turn around and do it again with another clean part of your rag until both sides of each blind have been wiped down.
Dish soap: Spot clean any extra-dirty spots with a small amount of dish soap and water on a cloth. Let it sit for several minutes then wipe clean with a damp lint-free rag. White vinegar and water will also do an effective job on these tough stains, but be sure to test in an inconspicuous area first in case there is any color change or damage to your blinds.
Cleaning spray: This step is important if you haven't given your blinds a good cleaning in a while. Spray each blind, front and back, with a multipurpose cleaning spray and wipe them down with a lint-free cloth. It is recommended to always do a spot-test on an inconspicuous area of the blinds first to ensure the cleaning spray doesn't damage the blinds or remove any finish or paint on the blinds.
Cleaning your windows is very important to make your home look bright and clean. Natural light is so important in a home, and having dirty windows blocks out that natural light!
The first step to cleaning your windows is to pull up blinds or shades out of the way and move any curtains that will make it harder to clean the windows.
Lint-free cloths: First, use a dry lint-free cloth or old t-shirt to wipe down the window and remove any debris or dust that is resting on the glass. This is important to do before you apply cleaning spray so that you aren't wiping around any excess dust and you are actually getting the glass clean. You can also use a traditional duster to do this step.
Glass cleaning spray: Find a glass spray that you like and trust to use in your home. There are tons of glass cleaners to choose from on the market, so it is important to do some research about which one works best for you and for your windows. If having a natural or pet-safe spray is important to you, there are plenty of these options, too. Spray down the entirety of the window with cleaning spray. For thicker layers of grime, you may need to go over the glass once or twice with a cleaning spray. Be sure not to oversaturate your lint-free cloth though!
Finish by using a fresh lint-free cloth to dry off your glass. You don't want to skip over using a clean cloth because you will leave small streaks or smudges behind on your windows if you do. Repeat these steps until your windows are all clean!
Also, don't neglect the corners and tight spaces of the window- this is where most of the dust and debris will collect!
